Book Talk: An Unwanted Guest

Shari Lapena

An Unwanted Guest was another book I could not put down. I read this book in a day. It honestly gave me modernized Clue vibes. If you’ve played the board game Clue before then you know what I’m talking about.

A variety of people, couples - married and engaged, friends, an author, an attorney, and staff are snowed in at the Mitchell’s Inn, a small family-owned bed and breakfast in upstate New York. Many are there for a weekend getaway to relax and bond. Bonding they very much do, relaxing is a whole other story.

One of the hotel guests ends up dead and they are on the hunt for the murderer among them. Unfortunately, the blizzard has trapped them inside the hotel. There’s no electricity, no wi-fi, and they can’t access the road. They simply have to wait it out in hopes someone else doesn’t get murdered.

With so few people staying in the hotel, it’s hard to believe that something like this could have happened.

Who could have done it and when?

Was the murderer killing for fun or was there some connection among the guests that others didn’t recognize.

I personally had to switch my guess multiple times throughout the book. The plot twists are so good and you’ll continue guessing until the very end.

If you’ve never read any of Shari Lapena’s books, I HIGHLY recommend them. She’s very good at plot twists.

Have you read this one or any of her other books?

love & light,
