5 Things to do Before Your Children Wake Up
Y’all! I have recently implemented a new schedule where I wake up every day at 5:30 am (except on weekends). And it’s been working! It allows me to get some much-needed me-time in and I can do whatever my heart needs. I was originally staying up late but my kids are early risers and I would just wake up grumpy because I had gone to bed late the night prior. With waking before my kids wake up, it sets a new positive spin for my day. I’ve been doing it for about a month now and I have no intention of going back.
Here’s how I spend my mornings before my kids wake up:
Drink a crap ton of water! You’re dehydrated when you first wake up. I have noticed that if I consume 2-3 cups of water when I first get out of bed, I have an easier time adjusting to the early hours of the morning.
Go wash your face! Go ahead and wash your face, moisturize, brush your teeth and even put on some deodorant. Sometimes these minor details can be lost in the process of getting your kids ready so do it now.
Pray! Spend some time in prayer, thanking the Lord for this new day you have waken up to. I like to give thanks and set my intentions for the day.
Morning Yoga! I do a quick early rise 15-minute yoga session on the Nike Fitness app and I swear my days go better when I have moved my body. it’s just enough exercise to make you feel good about yourself and to not break out into a sweat.
Drink the first cup of coffee and read a book! by this time I can finally take my first sip of coffee and cuddle on the couch with a good book for about 20 minutes before I hear little feet on the wood floors.
This has been my go-to routine for the last month and I have seen a dramatic increase in my mood and attitude towards my kids. It gives me a chance to fill my cup and to take care of myself before pouring into my tiny people. It doesn’t take up a lot of time and it’s things that I actually enjoy doing and look forward to in the morning.
Try it!
Love & light,
