Babywearing Benefits & Favorites

I have thoroughly enjoyed wearing my babies. I originally fell in love with babywearing with my second child. I wore him everywhere and owned every type of wrap I could get my hands on. Babywearing just opened a whole new level to parenting and allowed me to be hands-free and keep my little one close by.

We lived in the city with my second child and we walked almost everywhere. We didn’t like taking the stroller onto the metro because if you have ridden the metro before, you know that’s a whole other struggle in itself. Babywearing makes traveling so easy!

You can control who can and cannot touch your baby. Now I know this sounds selfish but think about it. People love babies but when they’re little and still developing their immune system, you can keep them close to you and away from others and the outside environment. Some wraps even have covers to shield baby’s head.

Babywearing helps to keep your baby calm. Whenever my little ones were cranky or fighting sleep and I had things to do, I would put them in the wrap and carry on. Within minutes they were calm, observing their surroundings or had fallen asleep.

Studies have also shown that babywearing is good for your little one’s social and cognitive development. Think about it. We all learn by watching. When we are wearing our babies they are watching and moving with us. They are interacting with what we’re interacting with and taking it all in.

Believe it or not, it’s good for their physical health as well. I was at first worried about the way their legs sit but as long as you make sure baby is properly seated, in a froggy position with knees above their bottom, it’s quite good for baby. I’ve also heard it has helped babies with colic or reflux.

Did I also mention it’s a way to bond with your baby, you are hands-free AND parents and other family members can babywear as well? We purchased my husband his very own wrap to make sure he could bond with baby and be hands-free as well.

You really can’t go wrong with babywearing. Women from all over have been babywearing for hundreds of years. Wear your baby as often as you like. Soon my third baby will be too big and I’ll no longer be able to wear her. It makes me sad thinking about it. So enjoy it while you can.

Here are some of my favorite brands for baby wraps:

Solly Baby : I use this one for around the house

Happy Baby Carrier : I use this one mostly on family adventures and hiking

Baby K’tan Wrap : This is the brand my husband choose to go with because it makes it easy with no wrapping and comes in his size

Wild Bird : These are beautiful but I didn’t wear this one often. This is often used for quick trips with baby being carried on my hip.

I hope this was helpful and you’re willing to try something new during those postpartum days and throughout your baby’s first year.

Love & light,

Jalesa
