Don't Wait!
"Today, stop making excuses for why you can't get it done and start focusing on all the reasons why you MUST make it happen."
It's been four years, since I last seen my grandmother. Maybe closer to five. My last visit was me telling her I was pregnant and her running to the bathroom to throw up. It's been a year since I last heard her voice. I called my dad on Thanksgiving and I heard her voice in the background and asked to speak to her. It's been ten days since I said I was going to go visit her that week coming up because my aunt kept inviting me over to the house. It's been ten days since we received the news that she passed away.
I always kept pushing the visit off. I don't have enough time. I have to pick up Jordan from school, I have a meeting, I have to cook dinner, I have to do laundry. Sometimes I just didn't feel like driving over there. And now, I don't have that chance anymore.
We get so consumed into the every day bustle of life and push the most important things aside and find reasons to do them another time. We find reasons to reschedule the doctor's appointment, to order pizza rather than going grocery shopping, to call tomorrow instead of that minute, to write it on a to do list and leaving it, never crossed off. It gets the best of us, all of us.
So I say don't wait! Create a reason to do it now! Make it a priority. If you want to go back to school, enroll now. If you want a job you have your eye on, apply now. If you want something, go after it. If you want to call your mother but ya'll are in a petty fight, call her right now! Life is too short to keep waiting, to keep procrastinating. We cannot allow excuses to dictate our life. We must live life with action.
This experience has been so heartbreaking. And I keep thinking what if I had done this when I said I was, or said yes, instead of no. Do we really want to live life wondering what if?
I have amazing memories of her, and I aspire to be like her in so many ways. I know she is happy and in a much better place than here. I know God is taking care of her.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18New International Version (NIV)
Believers Who Have Died
13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.
