Realistic Tips for Organizing Your Home
Before you can even begin to organize your home, you HAVE to first declutter. You cannot organize a chaotic mess or you will instantly become overwhelmed. Start with decluttering and then take inventory of your things and your space, either mentally, or by writing it all down. This gives you an idea of what you need and how you want to organize your space. It helps with creating a vision. I personally do this about three times a year. You’d be surprised at how quickly your junk can accumulate.
Create categories and put like items together so everything isn’t scattered but all in one place.
Don’t underestimate the power of folding your clothes and linens all the same way, stacking clear totes, or hanging your clothes. It creates a uniform look which is not only visually appealing but makes it easier to identify what you’re looking for.
I personally love the power of color-coordinating. I do this with clothes in my closet and with books on my bookshelf. It looks so good and it makes finding things easier because I can link it to a specific color.
Everything needs a place! Even your junk! It’s okay to have a designated junk drawer, just don’t spread that junk throughout the house.
I know everyone wants the Pinterest perfect pantry and closets, however, don’t go crazy on the bins. Ask yourself, “does this make sense for my space?” If you do use bins, create labels so that the system will be easy to use for everyone in the house, not just yourself.
Target, IKEA, Walmart, Home Goods, and Dollar Tree have affordable options for home organization pieces.
Start there and then take it one step further with the Pinterest “perfect” homes, as long as it makes sense for your home.
