First Impressions: Angelika Pop-Up Theater at Union Market

With it almost being a year, my husband and I are slowly growing some roots in the city. There are still a lot of places we haven't been and a lot of places we can't wait to visit. Our goal is to try somewhere new often. This was our chance.

We wanted to go see the new Assassin's Creed movie, because yeah, I'm a hard core fan and yeah, I have mixed reviews on it like anyone else. But back to the point, we usually drive to Alexandria or Arlington to go to the movies. I know! I know! We're crazy! This time we were on a time constraint and the Angelika Pop-Up Theater was the only one with the earliest showing. We've heard of Union Market, but never have heard of the theater or a pop-up theater in fact. So why not try it out!

First initial impressions: Union Market did not look like what I thought it would be like and was much more "dirty," shall we say. Parking wasn't convenient. But the building was interesting.

When you walk into the theater it is very dark, with very little lighting and posters are everywhere. Keep in mind this is a pop-up theater, so the movie selections were limited. I believe they were showing two other movies besides Assassin's Creed.

It wasn't busy, but we had went at 11am on a Wednesday, so we were the only ones in the theater. I'm not going to lie, I was freaked out. The theater room wasn't gigantic but it wasn't small either. It had good spacing and when you purchase your tickets, you can pick your seats on a screen. (I love that feature!)

We only ordered popcorn. The food and snacks were labeled "gourmet," but I mean I didn't see anything gourmet about it. They didn't have regular candy but offered Justin's Peanut Butter Cups. They also sold a selection of beers, wines, and Coke products. The guy before us ordered a chili dog and it did not look appetizing.

The quality of the theater screen wasn't bad but don't expect it to be on some AMC or IMAX screen type quality because it's not.

Overall, it was an okay experience. If you wanna go see a matinee movie but don't wanna pay a lot, I say go for it. If it's like a movie you've been dying to see, then I'd say go to a bigger named theater. I would take my daughter here to go see a movie as a mommy-daughter date.

Who knows, the hubby and I may come back again in the future for another matinee.

Enjoy!
