Metro Richmond Zoo

I know I’m not the only one who enjoys a good zoo trip. There’s just something special about taking your kids to the zoo and seeing them react to the different animals. My kids are very into various types of animals so I love hearing their questions and looking up the different animals when I don’t know the answer.

We have been to the Smithsonian national zoo quite a bit, so we headed south to Richmond.

There was such a wide variety of animals, that I personally have not seen at the Smithsonian Zoo in Washington DC. Such as Giraffes, a wide variety of birds, rhinos, snow leopard, wolves, and more.

They allow you to feed the animals and the Giraffes love it.

There is this huge watering hole in the center of the zoo and it’s so awesome to watch the zebras and Giraffe interact with each other.

The monkeys are hilarious, and one in particular likes to sing.

There is a train, zip-lining, and a carousel for you to enjoy. They do cost extra. They’re a few tokens each and each token is $1. They allow outside food and drink. There is plenty of seating throughout the zoo and most are shaded areas.

Personally, it did not feel crowded and we went on a Saturday. There was so much space outside that you were able to spread out. The zoo is one Giant circle and you’re able to make your way around and you’ll end up at the entrance where you started.

Overall, it was such a fun experience and I know we’ll be back soon. It looks like they’ll be expanding the zoo and I can’t wait to see what more they’ll do.

Have you been to the Richmond Zoo? What was your favorite part?

If you wanna know more about the Smithsonian Zoo, you can read more here and here (excuse the photos, they’re back from 2017 but still good info nonetheless).

love & light,
