Making Home 01: Laundry Room Makeover

If you didn’t read my 2021 year in review blog post (I’ll link it here), WE BOUGHT A HOUSE! I am beyond excited to share our first home with you. I have been dreaming of the day when I get to decorate and fully design my house and make it feel like a home. So I’m starting a mini-series of different rooms in our home that we revamped and made it our own.

First up, is the laundry room! We did not pay attention or maybe we forgot but the seller took their washer and dryer with them. So the laundry room was an empty slate (ignore the washer and dryer in the before photos). The only thing left on the walls were two tiny cabinets.

So I went to Pinterest and we hired a contractor to help us maximize the space. We needed all of the extra storage we could get.

We picked out real wood cabinets, that our contractor had to then cut down to fit the size of the room. So these cabinets do not have the standard amount of space but are slightly smaller. We have two cabinets on the bottom with a countertop. Then we had him add two cabinets that were tall enough to go to the ceiling. The cabinets are from Lowe’s and come pre-painted and are soft close.

We painted the laundry room in Sherwin Williams Alabaster, the finish is flat, and I am obsessed with this color. The white is such a perfect, creamy white and it reflects the light in just the right way.

The washer and dryer we went with are by Samsung and we bought them during Black-Friday from Costco. It had great reviews, it was a great price, and it was actually in stock and not back-ordered like everything else.

As I mentioned earlier, we needed to maximize the space. So I picked up this storage cabinet from Target to store all of my homeschool supplies in. I’ll do a what’s in my homeschool cabinet soon. This cabinet holds a good amount of stuff and it was just the right size for our space.

Next, I just decorated with stuff I already had or things I found at a thrift store. The photos you see I can’t link because they were thrifted. If you follow me on Instagram, you would have seen that I got the giant picture for only $40!

The seller left a DIY chalkboard on the wall so we just kept it. I like to add photos and different quotes to it.

You will notice that the washer and dryer are not pushed back all the way to the wall and that’s just because of the dryer vent and cords.

Overall, I am so satisfied with how the laundry room came out. It’s functional as well as pleasing to the eye. I will be the first to admit that I don’t mind doing laundry because of how good my laundry room looks.

Let me know what’s your favorite part of this laundry room makeover!

love & light,

Jalesa

Next up, is the powder room!
