Our family loves to go apple picking every year. It’s something I’ve always done as a little kid with my grandmother and knew I wanted to continue the tradition with my own children.
So this year we packed up the kids, headed to Charlottesville, and went apple picking!
Now with COVID happening, they are requiring tickets for timed entry and the tickets are good for 3 hours. In my opinion, they weren’t doing a great job of managing the crowds. Lines were long, no one was distancing, people were not honoring their timed slots. We did go on a weekend, so if you’re trying to avoid crowds I would recommend going through on a weekday.
We went in the afternoon (that’s what time they had available) and not many apples were available from the designated spots. The apples had limited availability and were definitely picked through. The kids were determined though and were able to fill a small box. The apples we did find were small and the perfect kid-size so that they wouldn’t go to waste during snack time.
We hung out and sat and ate some apples while looking over the mountain views for a while. We wanted to get some apple cider donuts but the lines were ridiculous.
So we packed up and headed home and made an apple pie.
Despite the crowd compared to last year, the kids still enjoyed themselves.
If anyone has an apple cider donut recipe to share, I’d love to have it.
love & light,
Jalesa
