Book Talk: Praying Circles Around the Lives of Your Children
Parenting is like a roller coaster ride. It's an up and down battle. It's a mix of emotions that range from happy to sad, to angry, to disappointed, and so on. And just when you think that you have it down, your child enters another stage that you have to learn all over again. Like everyone says, it takes a village to raise a child. It involves a lot of prayer too.
I'm a big fan of Mark Batterson and when I discovered he had a book about praying circles around the lives of your children, I was determined to get my hands on it.
Batterson emphasizes the fact that: "you can't choose Christ for your kids, but you can pray that they choose Christ."
He discuses seven prayer circles we as parents should practice, not all at once, but to focus on what your family needs at the time.
The Seven Prayer Circles:
- Circling the Promises of God
- Making Prayer Lists
- Creating Prayer Mantras
- Praying a Hedge of Protection
- Forming Prayer Circles
- Praying through the Bible
- Passing on the Blessing
I'm not going to go into detail for each but I encourage you to read the book. Take notes. Pray as you read.
"Your prayers for your children are the greatest legacy you can leave."
"When we get discouraged as parents, we have to remember the power of a single prayer. One prayer can change anything. One prayer can change everything."
"You'll never be a perfect parent, but you can be a praying parent."
So I encourage you to take some time out of your day to read this book. Our children are the greatest gifts from God, so why would we not want to pray for them?
Enjoy!
