Book Talk: The Perfect Ruin

Shanora Williams

Rating: 3/5

I picked up this book based on a recommendation from someone I follow on Instagram. I had never read anything from Shanora Williams but I heard she’s a pretty well-known author.

It follows a young woman whose parents were murdered in a car accident by a well-known figure in the community. She had been going through counseling and therapy since her parents’ passing. She feels like her life was ruined and she was set up for failure growing up without parents. She never knew who was responsible and the police refused to give her a name. Until one day, her therapist slipped the name of the person who was responsible for her parents’ death.

She vows to become friends take revenge and make a better life for herself but ends up making someone else’s life better and hers worse.

The writing was a little redundant at first and it felt slow, but it picked up towards the end. The ending caught me off guard. I mean it was a major plot twist and a very good one. Once that was revealed I couldn't;t put it down.

I wouldn’t say it was something I would pick up to re-read again but who knows!

DId you read this one? What did you think?

love & light,
