Making Home 02: Powder Room Makeover

The powder room was the first room we completely finished in our new home. We loved the shiplap and the vintage-inspired faucet but wanted to make the space feel more like us.

A friend suggested that we paint the shiplap black. I was originally planning to paint this bathroom a very bold, dark, forest green but switched gears when I liked the idea of the shiplap being black.

Because the bathroom is small and it gets an okay amount of light, I decided to paint the walls Alabaster by Sherwin Williams to make the space feel big and airy.

I then took the same black paint I used on the shiplap to paint the cabinet. I do not know the name of the black paint but it was by BEHR from Home Depot.

I found some brass knobs from Lowe’s and switched out the pre-existing ones. I wish I would have chosen silver to match the faucet but I like the look of mixed metals and bought gold in the space through decorating.

The black circle mirror is from Target. We had it hanging in our living room in our old place and swapped it for the bathroom mirror.

I would love to change out the towel bar, toilet paper holder, and existing light fixture but I wanted to keep expenses low.

Then I decorated.

Things from Target:

Black & White Hand Towel

Gold Cow Skull Head

Black Mirror

Fake Cactus Plant

*I have linked what I can or similar.

The basket was left by the previous owner in an upstairs closet. We use it to store extra toilet paper.

The three pictures hanging on the opposite wall are from Eastern Market in DC. We picked them up from a local vendor.

This bathroom makeover was mostly paint and using what we already had for the most part. The whole project maybe cost $150 or less.

What do you think of the before and after?

love & light,
