How I Plan Our Homeschool Week

I’m a planner. I like things written out and I like to have a plan. It doesn’t always mean I will follow the plan exactly but it is my guide and allows me to know what to do next or during the day.

A lot of the curriculum we use has a planned schedule for the 36 weeks. So I follow that for the most part. I then just split up the subjects on days that work best for us. If we need to move things around then we do that. As I said, we don’t always follow the plan and sometimes we “fall behind” so we move things into the next day or even into the next week.

So with us doing that, I only plan one week at a time. It’s not like I’m hard-core planning since I have the curriculum as my guide.

I sit down on a Sunday for about 2 hours and I look through the curriculum for what we’re doing next week.

I then highlight what we’re going to do and add it to the day I want to do it. I use the AnnaVance Homeschool Planner and absolutely love the layout and how I like to plan.

I then pull out books, all materials, all games, crafts, and any other resources I’m going to need. I like to pull all of our resources ahead of time and put them in a designated basket for a week. This way I know where everything is and I don’t have to go looking for it.

Once I pull everything, I then start prepping any resources and crafts we are going to be doing. So this is where I print, glue, color, and cut. I then add all printed and prepped material to a folder.

If we have any videos, the curriculum we use has a link guide so it makes it easy to just click on the video for the lesson.

At this time if I am missing any materials, I will either plan around it or create a shopping list.

Pulling all of our materials, and prepping everything ahead of time has been a game-changer for us. It saves on so much time and on my sanity.

But that’s pretty much all I do. Super simple and easy.

It doesn't always take me 2 hours, it just depends on the number of interruptions and how much I really need to prep for the week.

I’ll be sharing more about our curriculum picks soon. I just want to dive a little deeper into the material before I give an opinion.

Do you like to plan one week at a time, a month at a time, or plan out the whole year?
